False aneurysm of the uterine artery

False aneurysm of the uterine artery

Indefinite possibilities of vascular surgery

In the article you will find the following information:

False aneurysm of the uterine artery is a rather rare pathology and it is referred to as a pseudoaneurysm. One of the reasons for its development is difficult physiological childbirth, traumatic cesarean section.

A 33-year-old patient with severe complaints (heavy vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain, severe general weakness) was placed in the emergency department, the condition was noticeable.

According to her, during the last few months, there has been periodic bleeding from the vagina with colts. Vital indicators were assessed, we took her for monitoring. Based on the studies, the bladder was diagnosed, hysteroscopy and hysteroscopic excision of the endometrium were performed, however, periodic bleeding continued, resulting in additional duplex scans of the veins of the lower extremities and computed tomography of the pelvis. Clinical studies have revealed a large false aneurysm of the uterine artery. For further treatment, the patient was placed in the operating room, where surgical treatment was administered by Giorgi Jinchveladze, head of the department of endovascular, vascular, and reconstructive surgery.

Arterial embolization

The patient underwent selective pelvic angiography and transcatheter arterial embolization of the uterine artery aneurysm, which is the gold standard for endovascular treatment because it is non-invasive, safe, and highly effective.

Before the introduction of this method in the field of medicine, an open intervention was performed on false aneurysms of the uterine artery, which was associated with large blood loss, trauma, prolonged general anesthesia. Besides, pelvic dissection can lead to postoperative adhesion (enlargement, healing). The endovascular approach is indeed much safer, although open surgical intervention has been shown in cases where there are some contraindications to the use of such techniques. Still, contraindications are very rare.

In order to assess the postoperative condition and to rule out complete occlusion of the blood vessels, the patient underwent post-embolization angiographic and computed tomography examination in the early postoperative period and 2 months after surgery, as a result of which the pathology was no longer detected.

The patient's condition was satisfactory in dynamics; After receiving appropriate medical recommendations and prescriptions, she was discharged home.

Vascular Surgery as the flagship of the National Center for Surgery

In 1960, the foundation of the National Center of Surgery was laid for the development of vascular surgery in Georgia. Therefore, the Department of Vascular, Plastic, and Reconstructive Surgery has a very impressive past.

One of the defining factors of the success of angio-surgeons is that they fully own the arsenal of ultra-modern equipment, the clinic is equipped with a modern Japanese-made angiography - Shimadzu Trinias B12,  which allows to complexly eliminate such complex pathologies that until recently were considered insurmountable.
