The head of the clinic radiotherapy department attended annual meeting of American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO).

It should be noted that Mr. Besik was the only delegate from Georgian medical clinics, who attended the congress.

The event takes place annually and 11 000 specialists of this field attended it. Guests had a chance to get acquainted with the latest achievements of radiation therapy and modern technologies. 
The ASTRO Congress is an important event. The aim of the Congress is to develop practical radiation oncology - to publish and disseminate the results of scientific research for further practice. Participants will be able to meet with world famous professionals and share experiences with each other.
Mr. Besik's visit to Congress is one of the major components of the project implemented by the National Center of Surgery.
I want to remind you that very soon the Radiotherapy Department will start to function in the National Center of Surgery that will offer patients an evidence based, high quality treatment using ultra-modern technologies. 
The National Center of Surgery will conduct the radiotherapy of the brain, head and neck, lungs, breast, GI tract organs, GU system oncological diseases and multiple metastasis of bones, using modern techniques of irradiation.
To accomplish this task, the clinic has bought several linear accelerators from world famous company Varian, for standard care and also for the high-level radio-surgical (SRS, SBRT) procedures. 
Varian Oncology Systems is one of the most successful companies in the world in creating equipment needed for radiation therapy. The company provides different clinics and radiation therapy centers with ultramodern equipment. It is possible to achieve maximal precision in aiming the target mass without damaging healthy tissue, that is very important in modern radiation therapy, using Varian linear accelerators.
Our clinic radiotherapy personnel have been educated and have worked in foreign leading clinics. A group of experienced physicist will make up a treatment plan with such advanced methods of planning such as 3D CRT, iMRT, VMAT (RapidArc).
The daily procedure of treatment will be performed by IGRT (image-guided radiation therapy) that ensures high accuracy of the treatment plan.
