All mushroom-lovers know that this delicious food is the most common cause of intoxication.
Cause of poisoning is a poisonous mushroom, as well as ignore of essential rules in meal preparation.
Unfortunately, sometimes surrounding people are not aware (don’t recognize) that a person was poisoned by mushroom due to a particular reason and it causes late hospitalization of the person. Keep in mind that if any symptoms of intoxication were detected, especially if you consumed mushroom, you should promptly seek the clinic. Sooner the complex treatment starts, the less negative effect will the poison have on the organism.
In this article, head of the multi-field department of National Center of Surgery, Maia Bezhanishvili discusses which type of mushrooms we shouldn’t eat and which ones are beneficial.
Please, be especially cautious and follow these rules:
- In forest, pick the type of mushroom that you, for sure, know is edible and isn’t poisonous. Also, keep in mind that "poisonous doppelganger" grows near every edible mushroom and it’s hard to differentiate because of visual similarities;
- Don’t use in a meal or try to taste a mushroom that you don’t know or you’re suspicious about;
- Don't pick and use the type of mushroom that has bulb-like thickening at the roots (such as, for example, Amanita phalloides and Amanita muscaria);
- Never pick and use in meal mushrooms that are overripe, worm-eaten, rotten and water-laden;
- Don’t use raw mushrooms (without thermal processing);
- Never eat mushroom with alcohol;
- It’s not recommended to pick mushrooms after severe cold;
- Don’t pick mushroom that grows near streets or central roads or nearby highways, because in mushrooms are heavy metal-laden in such conditions;
- It’s recommended to cook the meal on the same day you pick the mushrooms;
- Never prepare a mushroom meal in a metal dish;
- The assumption spread in society about the recognition of poisonous mushrooms being simple and that it will darken if boiled together with onions and garlic or change colors if you use a silver spoon is false;
- It’s not recommended to reheat a meal containing mushrooms and eat it on the second day.
Wish you health!
