National Center of Surgery supports young scientists of our country

The award ceremony of the national round of the European Young Scientists Competition was held at Tbilisi Assembly hall.

The ceremony was attended by Georgian, as well as foreign guests.

The contest aims to support young scientists cooperation in the various fields of science and technology. The European Young Scientists Competition is a large-scale event held annually in one of the EU member states since 1989. This year the honor of hosting the competition was granted to the capital of Bulgaria – Sofia.

At the event, all participants of the national round of the Young Scientists Competitionwere awarded certificates for winning in various prized categories. Whereas, 3 young  scientists will represent Georgia at the international competition:

  • Nia Gogokhia, Saba Gogichaishvili – Cancer’s local eradication;
  • Nino Bulbulashvili – Distance Diagnostics

National Center of Surgery is very pleased to be one of the sponsors of the event with such importance.

It should be noted, that National Center of Surgery’s general director, Lasha Bazadze was one of the members of the competition’s jury panel.

Mr. Bazadze states - "With such competitions, young scientists have an opportunity to realize their ideas through practice. They acquire relevant skills and experiences, interact with well-known scientists, attend lectures or seminars and deepen knowledge. National Center of Surgery actively supports young scientists. On behalf of the clinic, we awarded the winners with incentive prizes. In addition, they are granted an opportunity to conduct scientific and medical practice in our clinic’s base. I congratulate young scientists on their win and wish success on their great path of science. The winning medical topic had a big influence on the jury members. I am pleased to know that the 2 topics in the competition are dedicated to the medical field”

Since 1998, Georgian representatives have participated in Eurocompetitions in Greece, Norway, Austria, Hungary, Ireland, Spain, Denmark, France, and Portugal. In this competition following competitors from the post-soviet union space participates: Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Ukraine, Moldova, Russia, and Belarus.

Over the years the projects presented by Georgia have been well-liked among European jury members, for example, 2018 was fruitful for the Georgian team. In particular, dea Ilarionova, Shorena, and Marina Gujabidze were awarded the 3rd main prize for the project "Hand Detector with retroflective mosaic screens for optical heterogeneity visualization".

In 2009 the project "Bacteriophages - alternative treatment of infectious diseases" sparked interest, as a result of which the author Ia Mikeladze was invited to study in Tartu State Medical Institute (Estonia).

In 2003, Aleksi Vachadze was invited to Norwegian Polar Institute for two weeks for his project “Study of the restoration and conservation aspects of Jeirani on the Georgian-Azeri borders ", while the other two participants were awarded incentive prizes.

In 2000, three students were awarded with 5 prizes out of 25 established ones. Nikoloz Chankoshvili was awarded with the main prize (6000 euro), as well as special prize (Participation in the London Youth Forum and Training in an ecological center. the Republic of Seychelles) for the project "Bats Protection in Georgia". The second participant Levan Kobakhidze was awarded a special prize (participation in London Youth Forum) and the third one - Niko Beruchashvili – was awarded an incentive prize.

Also, several participants from Georgia took part in the Swiss youth talents forum in different years.
