Five patients have been admitted to the National Center of Surgery with severe, avulsion wounds received by pyrotechnics.
All of them are adult males, one adult and 4 above the middle age. Patients have suffered severe firecracker-related wrist injuries. The head of the Vascular, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department of the National Center of Surgery, Doctor of Medical Sciences Irakli Piradze is talking about their health condition.
"After the appropriate intervention, we discharged 2 patients, but the rest 3 are still in the hospital because, after all the restoration of all of the structures, they need further treatment. We will evaluate the health of the patients today and after that, we will decide whether to discharge them from the clinic or not. Once again, I would like to explain to the readers what are the dangers of pyrotechnic use. You need to avoid pyrotechnics and if you still buy it, you will have to explode them remotely because holding in his hands involves an inevitable risk and is dangerous for health. For the information, the explosive material in the carton pipe corresponds to an average power grenade explosive material. The firework unit becomes jammed in a carton pipe and it has the same power as a hand grenade if you are holding it in your hands. However, unfortunately, some people ignore these recommendations. I spoke with colleagues and the rate of damage caused by pyrotechnics in Georgia is slightly increased in adults. There are no safe pyrotechnics in nature and if exists - they are too expensive, "- said Mr. Irakli.
Pyrotechnics damage is considered the most severe mechanical damage among explosive damages. This is not a stab wound, only the tissues are damaged, where the knife passes through. In the case of pyrotechnics, the tissues around the wound are bruised. The tissues around the lesion can become totally lifeless, and sometimes applying sutures or restoring structures of such wounds is simply not enough. The blasting wave damages all the tissues on the way.
As you know, the New Year is celebrated twice a year in Georgia, so it will be good if you take into account your previous unpleasant experience and you will listen to your doctor’s advice.
