How to eat at winter resort?

If you plan a vacation at the winter resort, keep in mind National Center of Surgery’s recommendations

Of course, compared to summer, in winter acute diarrheal diseases, food and water intoxication cases are relatively low, but in the winter on mountain resorts, gastrointestinal tract diseases detection is frequent and the main reasons for that are acclimatization, dining at fast-food restaurants, unhealthy nutrition and lack of personal hygiene.

Usually during vacation, vacationers and tourists in order to save time give preference to ready products and visit fast food restaurants. In order to have fun and warm up, they drink alcohol - all this is a big challenge for gastrointestinal tract. Diarrhea and constipation are frequent, which is caused by unhealthy nutrition.

How to eat at winter resort? We asked this question to National Center of Surgery’s gastroenterologist Eka Zalikiani.

As you stated in an interview with us, it is desirable to keep a certain regime namely, eat three times or four times a day with small portions, consume liquids (it is desirable to remove or minimize the intake of carbonated, refreshing energy drinks, alcohol), eat fruits (apples, bananas, citrus - moderately) and vegetables (beets, carrots, lettuce, radish  and juicy soups made from this vegetable).

Gastroenterologist states - "Canned products are popular in vacationers. When buying foods like that, be extra cautious because the risk of infectious diseases is high. It is desirable to eat a homemade canned food or check the expiration date before purchasing. Children should not consume canned foods. Start your morning  with light breakfast (tea, bread, cheese, porridge, omelette, boiled egg). Eat fruit and vegetables during the first half of the day. Avoid eating it in the evening since it might cause bloating. Replace refreshing, carbonated and energy drinks with water and natural juices and coffee but moderately.”
