It’s an extremely complicated and very interesting phenomenon, and in case of deterioration or complete loss of memory, life significantly loses its’ meaning.

There are short-term and long-term memories. Conventionally distinguished types determine following – in short-term memory, a person memorizes received information for several hours, whereas long-term memory means that a particular event is not forgotten throughout his/her life.

Our readers often express their interest in ways to improve memory, and that’s why we’ve decided to dedicate an article to this topic.

Neurologist of National Center of Surgery, Tea Shubladze advises:

  • If you spend time in a room where there is not enough light, the brain structure changes. Because of such lighting, the ability to remember and study information significantly declines;
  • Read a text out loud, if you’d like for the new information to be easily remembered and memorized for a long time.
  • Vacation is the best way for memory improvement and brain rest. Also, if your hobby is taking photos, you're very lucky. Photos taken during the vacation will help you train the memory. For example, a shell that you’ve captured with your camera will remind you of a beach you've sunbathed at, and pleasant history/histories will pop into your mind, "selfie" taken in the restaurant will remind you of delicious food you've tasted on the evening walk, etc.
  • To improve your memory, you can learn a foreign language, even on your own;
  • It’s recommended to solve crosswords, any games that serve as a brain-trainer, read new information daily;
  • Physical activity will not only help you stay fit but walking in fresh air is also beneficial for the brain and especially for the memory. Exercise naturally stimulates blood circulation and as a result the function of brain cells, neurons improves;
  • Memory loves sun rays (of course, it’s not recommended to stay in the midday sun in summer)
  • Healthy nutrition is important. Mediterranean diet is beneficial for the brain. Such type of nutrition is rich in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans, nuts. Use olive oil for meals.  Dairy products and fish are also beneficial for the brain;
  • You can eat black chocolate but consume coffee moderately.

Wish you health!
