International paramedic day was celebrated with various interesting events at National Center of Surgery and “New Life” clinic.
In the clinic, profession is celebrated for the fifth year in a row. This year's conference was dedicated to role of innovations and modern technologies in the development of paramedic practices.
Clinic’s paramedics, especially for this day, spoke out about current issues in the medical field and prepared them in a presentation form.
The event was held at the National Center of Surgery, "New Life" clinic’s conference hall. The conference was officially opened after chairperson of the supervisory board, Tea Gamezardashvili’s opening speech.
Audience listened to number of interesting reports, for example, what is the paramedic's role during thrombolysis, paramedic’s role in endovascular treatment of cerebral artery thrombosis during acute ischemic stroke, paramedic’s duties in radiation oncology, the specifics of patient care of particular complexity, why are infections caused by medical equipment dangerous and etc.
National Center of Surgery’s outpatient department’s paramedic Luiza Zhvania’s report was very emotional - as Ms. Zhvania told the guests, she has been serving the National Center for Surgery and her favorite profession already for 42 years.
Guests listened to following reports at the conference:

- „Paramedic’s role during thrombolysis” – Giorgi Nadiradze;
- „PICC line” – Khatia Tembidze;
- „Kidney diversion (Nephrostomy)“ – Konstantine Kekelia;
- „Pulmonary embolism and paramedic’s role” – Ekaterine Tsereteli;
- „Myocardial infarction” – Maia Amirezashvili;
- „Paramedic’s role in endovascular treatment of cerebral artery thrombosis during acute ischemic stroke” – Kristine Togonidze;
- „Bone marrow function” – Tamar Adamia;
- „Paramedic’s role in radiology” – Nino Kobakhidze;
- „Iron-deficiency anemia” – Lika Talakhadze;
- „Endovascular operational role in modern medicine” –Mariam Dighmelashvili;
- „abscess“ – Luiza Zhvania.
The tradition wasn’t broken this year as well and conference was concluded with a festive dinner.
Everybody was looking forward to the evening, because the winners of various nominations planned to be revealed in the restaurant "Sharbati". Indeed, the leadership of the clinic had established a number of important, honorable prizes for utterly devoting work throughout the whole year.
Initially all participants were awarded with a certificate. According to the clinic’s leadership, all the topics were so interesting that they had a difficulty announcing the best.
According to the directors, Konstantine Kekelia (Emergency Department, National Center of Surgery) presented the best paramedic topic among 15 participants and earned the first place - the winner was awarded with a cash prize.
2 runner-ups participants – Khatia Tebidze (neonatal service, ‘New Life” clinic) and Rusudan Tsintsadze (intensive care medicine department, “New Life” clinic) were awarded with a cash prize.
The third place and cash prize were awarded to Mariam Dighmelashvili (department of operation, National Center of Surgery) and Tamta Tsikarishvili (Radiotherapy department, National Center of Surgery).

- The best paramedic of National Center of surgery’s anesthesiology department –Tea Gusharashvili.
- The best paramedic of National Center of Surgery’s hematology department – Mekhral Rustamovi;
- The best paramedic of National Center of Surgery’s gynecology department – Tamar Karbelashvili;
- The best paramedic of National Center of Surgery’s department of operation- Tea Longurashvili;
- The best paramedic of “New Life” clinic’s department of operation – Sofo Berbichashvili.
For “The best paramedic’s assistant of the department” nomination following were awarded:
- The best paramedic’s assistant of National Center of Surgery’s emergency department- Vasil Maisuradze;
- The best paramedic’s assistant of National Center of Surgery’s hematology department- Lika Talakhadze;
- The best paramedic’s assistant of National Center of Surgery’s multi-field department – Guranda Kokhtashvhvili
- The best paramedic’s assistant of National Center of Surgery’s department of operation– Madona Bughadze;
- The best paramedic’s assistant of “New Life” clinic’s multi-field department – Tamar Rekhviashvili.
For “the best paramedic team of the year” nomination clinic’s 6 departments were awarded.Jury selected winners based on registered patients and letters of appreciation of 2018/2019:
- The best paramedic team of the year, National Center of Surgery, I place – department of hematology;
- The best paramedic team of the year, National Center of Surgery, II place – department of operation
- The best paramedic team of the year, National Center of Surgery, III place – toxicology, gynecology and multi-field department
- The best paramedic team of the year, “New Life” clinic, I place – multi-field department
- The best paramedic team of the year, “New Life” clinic, II place – Surgery department
- The best paramedic team of the year, “New Life” clinic, III place – Obstetrics-gynaecology department.
For “The best patient transporter” nomination award was given to Onise Khutsishvili (Emergency department, National Center of Surgery).
Also, appreciation certificates were awarded to:
- Chief paramedic, National Center of Surgery – Ketevan Kokiauri;
- Curator of continuing paramedic training service, National Center of Surgery- Nino Chubinidze;
- Chief paramedic of department of operation, National Center of Surgery – Lali Chaduneli;
- Chief paramedic, “New Life” clinic – Tinatin Vardanashvili.

It should be noted that paramedic services greatly contributed to the National Center of Surgery and the "New Life" clinic’s successful functioning. Paramedic job is an independent work, whose main purpose is the qualified care and treatment fulfillment for patients of all age groups.
For reader’s information, in a world international paramedic day is celebrated since 1974.
International Council of Nurses (ICN) decided to declare the day of Florence Nightingale's birthday, May 12, to be international paramedic day. This is a woman who laid the foundation for the paramedic job development as a profession.
